A change is as good as a rest, so they say. Well, I’m doing both as I’ve switched on my OOO and am taking a wee summer break. I’ve packed up my own reading material (some chick lit, some magazines and lots of bookmarked articles) and I’m ready for the off.
If you’re in vacay mode too, here’s some reading material of my own creation to get stuck into…you’re welcome (and also I’d love it if you took a look!).
Back soon, enjoy!

I achieved my dream job…and then quit. Here's why
True story: during the interview for what would be my first job on a magazine, my future editor in chief asked ‘where do you see yourself in 10 years?’. One of those interview questions to which you never really know what to answer correctly. You want to strike the right balance between seeming keen, committed and ambit…
Decorating mistakes I’ve made (and will now admit to)
Admitting when you’re wrong…I’ve been trying to come up with a comparison to sum up how that feels. Perhaps a bit like a trip to the dentist – you know you should but it’s not the most pleasant, you don’t look forward to it, but once you’ve been you usually do feel better that it’s over and done.
Creating a new place to work (at home)
As I write, I’m sitting at my dining table. I’ve written before about how it’s in a room of two halves – one of toy chaos, the other a more grown-up vibe. So my view is toys and, right now, a rogue shoe and a sippy cup which have found their way into the play space. As much as I like sitting here to write, Alexa playing Lo Fi Beats on Spotify, the door …
Enough with the core!
It started with #cottagecore. That particular trend bubbled away and boomed on social media and the hashtag now has 4.7 million posts, no less. And then there’s the variations like #cottagecoreaesthetic (1.2 million), #cottagecorestyle (172,000) and #cottagecorecommunity (134,000). There’s no denying it’s popular, of course. And I can get on board with …
The Edit #1: The outdoor living edition
Well, thank Helios for this weather, right? I had my doubts that summer would actually make its appearance this year, I tell you, but after a week of glorious rays, I have well and truly got that summer feeling* (*touches wood, crosses fingers and toes, checks forecast for the umpteeth time). I’ve spent as much time outdoors this week and, of course, ma…
The Edit #2: Love seats for lounging
There are two corners in my home that I can’t stop looking at. Two spots that are crying out for a new seating arrangement. It all started with a lovely press dinner with Dunelm a month or so ago when I shared a green and cream striped snuggle sofa on the Grid
I bought a jumpsuit!
Remember when you’d be taken shopping before the start of a new term at school? I’d usually be carted off to Clarks around mid August for new ‘proper’ shoes and make a stop at Woolworths for a new pencil case and, if I was lucky, the latest smelly gel pen and a pick-a-mix. Not only a necessity to get ready for back to school at the start of September, i…
