Genuine quandary over here. I am stumped…caught up in indecision. And it’s over the smallest of things that could, arguably, make a big different to room design.
In the first of this new slot on The Home I Made: House Chats, I bring you a topic for discussion. Thoughts very welcome.
Here goes:
Should you match your door handle finish to your light switches and plug sockets? Should you then match these throughout the whole house? Or is it acceptable to mix and match? And it goes on… should you keep to a material theme across floors?
Answers on a postcard please…or just pop them in the comments of this Thread.
Well.....for years we’ve had all white plastic and not thought twice about it. I like to match these small details and touch points as it looks thought out. Mine are bronze as it goes with chrome taps etc. I think you can have two metallics per room.
The white plastic is the default isn’t it? I’ve got my eye on some lovely brushed brass handles and so think the white switches/plugs etc will just stand out for the wrong reasons. Two metallics is a good rule. Would you then match throughout a floor - I.e all of upstairs/downstairs or take it room by room?
I’ve done bronze switches sockets and door handles throughout. But I think you can vary from floor to floor although I wouldn’t want the landings and halls consistent. I think it’s probably just easier to have the same all over.
I’d say do whatever works for you, it’s you’re home after all 😊
For me personally I like to match throughout the house, although that may also have something to do with my OCD 🤣
You know, that’s what I probably would say if I was asked by someone else! 🤣 Clearly not so good at following my own advice!

Good point re the landings/hall. Food for thought…thank you!
